About Us

Welcome to the site! Professional basketball is probably the most profitable and most exciting sport to bet on and this season should be no different. At Handicapping The NBA, we have created a site that contains a wealth of free information and picks for casual handicappers, as well as a premium picks section geared toward the serious player.

A little background on me: My name is Tippy and I created Handicapping The NBA as a place to share dependable, quality handicapping information with other professional basketball fans. I will be doing all of the handicapping and posting on the site this season, so if you have questions, direct them to me by clicking the envelope icon on the homepage. I have a Law degree from the University of Alabama and currently make my living trading the foreign currency markets. My approach to handicapping is probably a little different than you will find on other sites around the internet. I am an avid fantasy basketball player and have been competing in leagues for over 20 years, therefore most of my analysis tends to be on the geeky computerized math side. I am a big believer in the studies and information created by the Association for Professional Basketball Research and use many of the statistics and rules created by that organization in my handicapping methods. I have found that mathematical rules, models and trends are useful in trading the currency markets and they also work pretty well in forecasting a numbers intensive sport like professional basketball.

The site is divided into 4 main areas: (1) The Quick Reference area, (2) NBA News, (3) NBA Game Recaps and (4) NBA Matchup Analysis and Picks. While the site is primarily directed at readers, the secondary purpose is to act as my personal handicapping notebook. The software gives me a place to record my thoughts, notes, opinions and reviews for later handicapping use. My notebook is open for all to see.

The Quick Reference section contains relevant up to date handicapping information such as injuries, lines, today’s free and premium picks, fantasy information and general handicapping articles. The most important feature of this section is the Live Blog. This is where I provide handicapping information throughout the day as it becomes available and it is the area you will want to check most often.

The NBA News section is a place for news that will have a bearing on NBA handicapping. You may not find gossipy type news here, but if it affects the line, it will probably be in this section. The NBA Recaps section is where I break down all of last night’s games to determine what really happened from a handicapping standpoint. It is extremely helpful to know where you were right and were you went wrong in handicapping a game and this is what I review in the Recaps section. On the right side you will find the Matchup and Analysis section. I try to hit as many games a day as I can in this section and give a quick review of the game and the important handicapping factors that you should consider. I don’t recommend playing evey game on the schedule, but if you are going to play, at least do it with the best information you can get.

At the top of the homepage you will find an envelope icon. This is our e-mail contact. If you have questions about the site, about our services or about anything else, please feel free to e-mail me.
