Recap of Tuesday 11/4/08 Games

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 · 10:06 am EST · Tippy

Phoenix 114   New Jersey 86  Pace:  94.3  OE:  Pho 120.9  NJ 91.2  eFG%:  Pho 72.1  NJ 38.0  FTR:  Pho 23.5 NJ 27.7   DR%:  Pho  75.0  NJ 85.2   OR%:  Pho 14.8  NJ  25.0    TO%:  Pho 20.1  NJ  15.9

Phoenix put up another one of their great offensive efficiency games shooting an excellent 72.1 eFG%.  They did have some trouble on the boards with NJ and also lost the turnover battle, but when you shoot as well as Phoenix did it allows for some mistakes.  Stoudemire and O’Neal rested much of the 4th quarter.  Raja Bell was on fire going for 22 points.  Vince Carter was having a nice game until tweaking his ankle and sitting out most of the fourth quarter, especially since the game was a blowout.  Yi Jianlian looked ok with 15, but much of it came with Stoudemire and O’Neal on the bench.

Boston 103   Houston 99  Pace:  92   OE:  Bos 112.0  Hou 107.6   eFG%:  Bos 53.9  Hou 43.1  FTR:  Bos 26.0  Hou 27.6   DR%:  Bos 68.1  Hou 65.0   OR%:  Bos 35.0  Hou 31.9   TO%:  Bos 17.4  Hou 12.0

This was a pretty evenly matched game but Boston was shooting better than Houston as evidenced by the eFG% matchup of Bos 53.9-Hou 43.1.  Ray Allen got hot going for 29 points.  Scola looked good for Houston while Ming was held to only 8 points due to early foul trouble.  McGrady also had a good game but may have tweaked his knee, so keep an eye on that for the next game.   Brooks still looks better than Alston and should keep getting minutes.

Dallas 98  San Antonio 81  Pace: 80   OE:  Dal 122.5  SA 101.3  eFG%:  Dal 57.4  SA 46.5  FTR:  6.2  SA 19.4    DR%:  Dal  81.8  SA  74.3   OR%:  Dal 25.7  SA 18.2   TO%:  Dal 8.8   SA 8.8

San Antonio is looking really old and slow.  The only bright spots on the team are Duncan and Parker.  At this rate, SA won’t survive until Ginobili gets back.  The defense was horrible giving up a 122.5 offensive rating to Dallas and getting out rebounded by a pretty big margin.  Dallas shot 57.4 eFG% while SA only managed a 46.5 figure.   The pace of the game was extremely slow at 80 possessions.

Chicago 93  Orlando 96.  Pace: 97.3  OE:  Chi 95.6  Orl 97.3   eFG:  Chi 47.1  Orl 46.9  FTR:  Chi 14.0 Orl 26.3   DR%:  Chi 68.6  Orl 75.0   OR%:  Chi 25.0  Orl 31.4   TO%:  Chi  17.5  Orl  19.5

This was a very competitive game with most of the stat categories very even.  Orlando managed to get the win by getting to the FT line 31 times compared to only 18 for Chicago.  The FTR shows the Orlando advantage.  Dwight Howard dominated inside for Orlando.

Sacramento 91 Philadelphia 125.  Pace: 94.1  OE:  Sac 96.7  Phi 132.8  eFG:  Sac 50.0  Phi 65.8  FTR Sac 19.7 Phi 32.9  DR%  Sac 65.6  Phi 76.7   OR%:  Sac 23.3  Phi 34.3  TO%:  Sac 20.2  Phi 14.9

Philadelphia just dominated this game and most of the starters got some rest.  Brand wasn’t really needed in this one and had a below average night.  The difference in the game was the eFG% of 65.8 by Philadelphia leading to an Offensive efficiency rating of 132.8.  Brad Miller has one more game to sit out, but Hawes has performed well so far.  Sacrament was turnover prone giving it away on 20.2% of their possessions.

Golden State 79 Memphis 90.  Pace: 93.5   OE:  GS 84.5  MEM 96.3   eFG%:  GS 35.9  Mem 48.7  FTR:  GS 10.4 Mem 17.9     DR%:  GS 73.8  Mem 67.9   OR%:  GS 32.1   Mem 26.2   TO%:  GS 12.8  Mem 16.0

Memphis won this game on defense putting up a defensive efficiency rating of 84.5 and limiting Golden State to an eFG% of 35.9.  Memphis did turn the ball over 16.0% of their possessions, but survived.  Keep an eye on Memphis as they could provide some good betting opportunities.

Cleveland 100 Dallas 81.  Pace:  85.1   OE:  Cle 117.5  Dal 95.2  eFG%:  Cle 47.5  Dal 43.0  FTR: Cle 31.6 Dal 28.2   DR%:  Cle 79.1  Dal 59.1   OR%:  Cle 40.9  Dal 20.9   TO%:  Cle 11.8  Dal 16.5

Cleveland dominated the rebounding in this one.  Dallas was turnover prone giving it up 16.5% of their possessions.  Dirk Nowitzki had a horrible game.  The pace was an extremely slow 85.1 which is not what Dallas wants to do this season.

Utah 89 LA Clippers 73.  Pace:  87.7   OE:  Uta 101.5  LAC 83.2  eFG%:  Uta 41.6  LAC 44.4  FTR: Uta 32.5 LAC 12.5   DR%:  Uta 76.7 LAC 71.8   OR%:  Uta 28.2  LAC 23.2   TO%:  Uta 10.3  LAC 20.5

The Clippers lost this one in the turnover category giving it up on 20.5% of their possessions.  Shooting for both teams was poor.  Utah put the defensive pressure on with a defensive rating of 83.2.  Baron Davis was able to play but looked limited.  This was the second of back to back games with the Clippers with Utah winning both easily.   Utah also won the Free Throw game putting up a FTR of 32.5 going 25-31 compared to LA’s 12.5 rating on 9-20 shots.
